How do I setup a mobile authenticator for 2FA (Two-Factor Authentication)

Tola requires Two Factor Authentication to log in. This means you need to input a code sent to your mobile device before you can log into the Tola application.

Codes can be sent one of two ways:

By default codes are sent via text messages to your phone number when setting up the account.

You can also set up a Mobile Authenticator to receive codes. Using a Mobile Authenticator has several advantages:

  • It is more secure than text messages

  • It will work even if you do not have access to a cellular network

  • It will reliably work even if you are traveling

  • It will continue working if you change your phone number

To setup a Mobile Authenticator, you first need to install one. Tola uses the TOTP standard which is supported by the vast majority of Mobile Authenticator apps.

  1. Install a Mobile Authenticator app on your phone (we recommend Google Authenticator)

  2. Go to TolaSettingsYour NameEnable Mobile Authenticator

  3. Follow the instructions displayed there to set it up

That's it!

The next time you log into the Tola app, you will not receive a text message and will instead be required to enter a code provided by your Mobile Authenticator app.
